Changes in display settings affecting folder layout unexpectedly.
I hope you can provide some understanding about this small problem that is still causing me some trouble. I run a media server on Windows 7 Pro 64, which was connected to a 40" 1080p TV a while back. Now it's mostly used for streaming content throughout the house. I usually access it through TeamViewer and handle most tasks from there. The folders have always stayed in the right size, but about ten days ago I upgraded to a 50" 4K TV. Since then, every time I log in, the folders keep resizing and overlapping in the top-left corner of the screen. Even after repeatedly adjusting them, it's still happening. After rebooting the system, other apps like Firefox don't show this issue—just Windows folders. When trying to operate remotely on a 4K display over a 27" 1440p monitor, it's already challenging to read everything. The constant resizing and stacking of folders is becoming increasingly frustrating.
I was digging through the settings and noticed that the display was only showing 30hz at 4k... so I dug a little deeper and it will only do 60hz @ 1080p, so I thought.. perhaps the HDMI lead is an older spec. So I grabbed one of the new ones I bought that are current spec and swapped them over... Nope.. still only 30hz. No idea if that's actually the problem, but I'm just troubleshooting at the moment. Specs might help too I suppose. Display: Samsung UE49NU7100 4K HDR Smart TV Graphics Card ASUS R9 280X Rest of system is not great, but it's a mediaserver, so it's fine and is getting upgraded when W7 goes EOL in Jan AMD FX8350, 16GB, ASUS M5 MB, 550W Corsair PSU.. 6 hard drives totalling 30TB (5HDD = 1SDD)
The problem stems from the 30Hz setting not being compatible with the 280X display via over HDMI, and it seems unrelated to the original issue. I also disabled the aero snap feature in Windows 7 to check for improvements.
