Changes in BIOS settings don't stop the PC from staying on.
I installed my new 5800x3d into the mainboard (ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming itx/ax) and everything worked fine. I booted in, ran smoothly, and turned it off without problems. When I tried to enable the Resize Bar and set the XMP profile to 3200mhz in the BIOS, saved the changes and exited, but now my PC won’t shut down—lights are on, fans are spinning, and there’s a black screen. My current BIOS settings show: 5800x3d, 3200mhz, GSKill RAM, ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming itx ax, 750w PSU, and Radeon 7800xt with Windows 11.
I haven't altered anything in the bios or exited. Using default settings everything functioned properly.
The most recent update for your motherboard came on October 4, 2023, just over two weeks ago. You might want to consider updating the BIOS. Why would you use your old CPU if it won’t shut down? Does it still start your operating system? If your current CPU fails to boot, try the older one. Edited October 21, 2023 by WackySpace
You may also attempt these methods. Fix 1 – Power off your PC by typing “cmd” in the search bar of Windows 10. Right-click the result and select Run as administrator. Execute the command: shutdown /s /f /t 0. This will completely power down your PC, terminating any obstructing programs. Fix 2 – Turn off Link State Power Management. Press Windows key+R to open Run, type or paste this command and press Enter: control.exe powercfg.cpl,,3. Select “PCI Express”, then “Link State Power Management”. In the dropdown, choose “Off” from the options. Click “Apply” and “OK”. Fix 3 – Disable fast startup. Press Windows key+R to launch the Run window. Paste this command: powercfg.cpl. Choose “Choose what power buttons do”, then select “Change settings that are currently unavailable”. Under “Shutdown settings”, uncheck “Turn on fast startup (recommended)”. Click “Save changes”. Fix 4 – Turn off hibernation. Press Windows key+S, type “cmd” in the search bar, right-click and choose “Run as administrator”. In the prompt, enter: powercfg -h off. Fix 5 – Enable hibernation. Type “cmd” in the search field, right-click “Command Prompt”, and click “Run as administrator”. Be aware these steps are general and may not apply to every system. If none work, consider seeking professional help. Always back up your data before altering system settings to avoid loss.
Thank you for your assistance. Unfortunately, the problem persists—I still can’t modify BIOS settings without the PC displaying a black screen afterward. I’ve already tried loading the XMP profiles, but it seems the 5800X3D isn’t capable of supporting 3200MHz, which suggests this limitation applies universally.
