No obvious thermal throttling was found. I also re-applied thermal paste to try and resolve the issue, but it didn’t help. Task manager showed high resource usage, so I changed the priority from High to Normal after seeing a forum suggestion that might improve performance. The game running was Star Wars Fallen Order.

You might want to attempt a system restore. Unless you provide more specifics, I can't pinpoint the exact cause. I thought about your HDD usage possibly being full, but you mentioned it wasn't in the task manager, so I'm not sure.

I don’t have any previous restore points left, and the only option mentioned is a clean reinstall, which would be my final choice since it’s going to be difficult. If you need more information about your system, I’ll do my best to provide a clearer explanation.

If it isn't a restore, what could be done is running chkdsk /f. I don't think it will fix the issue, but it's worth a try. You might also consider booting from a live Linux distribution on a USB drive to check for hardware problems.

I've run a chkdsk scan multiple times but decided to retry. I also booted Linux from a USB drive, which suggests the issue might be software-related with Windows. Still, I'm willing to explore further before performing a clean install.
