Change the frame rate automatically when using an external monitor?
I own an ASUS ROG equipped with an RTX3060 and a 17" 1080p display at 144Hz. Occasionally, I connect a 32" 1080P monitor at 60Hz, and I'm looking for a method to automatically limit my FPS to 60 when switching to the external screen. I've configured the laptop to turn off its own display when the external monitor is connected, but I still need an automatic solution instead of manual adjustments.
Hey there,
You can utilize the NVCP to create a profile for each game, adjusting the FPS as needed.
Cheers
On the system, the display settings allow adjusting each monitor's refresh rate, ensuring it adapts to the selected FPS/hz when using a DP cable or HDMI.
Thank you for your setup. I still experience screen tears during gameplay with uncapped FPS on a 60Hz monitor. The NVIDIA Control Panel doesn't seem to consider the Windows 11 display refresh rate, allowing it to exceed 60 FPS if possible. Setting the max frame rate to 60 (actually 58) works well across both monitors, so I'll keep that approach.
I don’t play games that require more than 60 FPS on my laptop screen much anymore, so I’ll just switch settings manually when needed.
Thanks for the advice—please let me know if there’s another option to consider.
