Hello everyone, I know Windows 10 is launching soon, and I wanted to consider upgrading my setup. The idea is to replace the old SSD with Windows 10, but my HDD still has Windows 7 installed. I’m wondering what would happen if I installed the SSD and Windows 10 on it while keeping Windows 7 on the HDD. Also, I need advice on removing Windows 7 from the HDD so it can only serve as storage. Thanks for your support!

Set up Win10 on the SSD by disconnecting the HDD temporarily, following the usual installation steps, then reattaching it. To remove Windows 7 from the HDD, simply delete the Windows directory and related files such as Program Files and Users.

its fine, unplug your HDD during Win10 install however or it will screw up (itll place system reserved files on the hdd, which is not what we want) removing win7 without destroying your data is a pain, you have to run it through takecontrol to let you delete the system files...but some will never delete. the only way to totally remove win7 from that drive is to format.

It was mainly about upgrading to an SSD for my laptop, but I didn’t have much personal stuff attached to it.

Sadly, when I installed the SSD I couldn't format it, and everything was on the drive. There are still old fragments from a Windows install from three years ago, just a few megabytes. It doesn't really matter to me.

Thanks for your help! I'm preparing to send a USB with important files so I can reorganize the HDD later. It would have happened without the SSD, right? I'm curious about formatting options when it's time—can refreshing fix the issue or remove the SSD data? Also, I was surprised to hear someone confirm it worked, thanks!
