I've been operating my computer with a single stick of 16GB DDR4 at 3200MHz from G.Skill. Recently, I received another stick that's also 16GB DDR4 at the same speed. Both have identical CAS latency, but this new stick is only 8GB. I'm just starting out with PC technology, yet I've read that mixing different RAM sticks is possible as long as they match in brand and timing. After installing the second stick, I checked the BIOS settings for RAM configuration, but it still showed a clock speed of 2166MHz. I disabled XMP and attempted manual settings, but the issue persisted. When I opened Windows and looked up system information, only 16GB out of 24GB were recognized. I'm seeking advice on how to resolve the frequency and compatibility problems.

The difference in size suggests they could have distinct wiring. It would have been unexpected if both were from the same manufacturer, though still not a big change. After so much time, the variations under the heat spreaders might still be noticeable.

Thank you for your message. I attempted to start with only the 8GB, but it didn't work. I hope you receive your refund.
