Certain apps reduce the display refresh rate when Freesync is enabled
I observed that when Freesync (premium) is enabled, certain applications slow down their refresh rate in Windows 10 from 144Hz to 50Hz while the window is open. This change is visible on your monitors' OSD. Once you turn off Freesync, those programs and the system should operate normally at 144Hz again. Games function properly with all expected benefits of the premium version. There seems to be no official method to keep the refresh rate stable without disabling Freesync during use.
