I improved my custom PC a few months ago (about two months) from Windows 7 Home to Windows 10 Home. When I go into Windows Update to turn on insider features, it disappears and at the top it says "Some settings are controlled by your operator." This likely relates to switching from a local account to a Microsoft account, since deleting files owned by my old account causes errors.

I suggest installing Windows 10 fresh right away after the upgrade to prevent problems like this (I wouldn't be surprised if there are more hidden issues you haven't found yet)

Create a few copies of your personal files on different storage devices (or at least one backup), then perform a fresh installation of Windows 10. Expect significant challenges during the upgrade process.

Also, if you decide to take that path, remember to save your license key so you can enable a fresh installation. Use BelArc Advisor to track everything as it happens and generate the report.

It was a live USB file generated in Windows that triggered the issue. Removing it in Linux was possible because I had full access to all files. Edit: My laptop uses a HDD, so backing up more than 100GB of games would be impractical. Edited December 31, 2015 by ShadowTechXTS
