RHEL isn't really geared toward desktops, whereas Fedora is. You can still use CentOS as a desktop environment, but expect some challenges and encounter outdated applications.

Red Hat and CentOS might not be the newest distributions, but they get updates regularly through major releases. They also pull a lot of recent kernel features back to older versions, so you often discover good drivers even when using them on newer hardware.
