You can achieve 1080p at 60fps with ultra ray tracing on a 7900xtx, though it might be challenging. Right now it seems the 7900xtx struggles with a lock 40 at 1080p ultra RT. The 3080ti seems capable, but I’m skeptical about the 7900xtx. We’ll find out.
Many developers misjudge the performance of AMD cards and pair a significantly more capable one against an Nvidia model. The 7900XTX isn't comparable to the 3080 in any way—it's much better. The 3080 with 12GB VRAM is a very specific card; using it with that amount of memory creates confusion and seems questionable. They should have simply recommended an RTX 3080 Ti. Not surprising given the context, though this is clearly CDPR territory. A 6800XT performs better than a 2060 or an A750 in any scenario. It makes me wonder if CDPR actually has a single AMD graphics card available for development or testing. I'd be surprised to hear otherwise.
It implies CDPR must improve their game instead of urging users to purchase new GPUs.
Also mention that RT Overdrive was checked with DLSS Frame Generation activated. This means it runs at 30 frames per second in 4K resolution, which is significantly lower than the expected 60fps. This performance falls short since frame generation typically requires over 40 fps to avoid noticeable lag.
I recently moved from 3060ti to 6800XT and the RT experience in Witcher 3 has significantly improved. However, the visuals still feel average in most areas, making it hard to notice any differences. I can definitely spot the lower performance, often hitting around 55 FPS on average with drops to 45 FPS in the toughest sections. At 1440p Ultra+ with FSR Quality and RT set to performance, I’d love to give CP2077 a try. I already refunded that game.
