I’m checking if a physical copy of Mass Effect Andromeda is available for PC. I’m wondering whether the disc needs to be present while playing or if it’s just needed during installation.
It seems like the process resembles what EA used before: you receive a CD/DVD with instructions to launch Origin, enter the code from the game, then install it. Whether the game or installer is on the disc isn't clear, but activation happens once you follow those steps.
As AAA titles expand, storing them on DVD becomes increasingly challenging. It's true no game requires nearly as many discs as Unreal Tournament 2004 did at its peak.
This method allows you to save the game on your account, so you can run it on another computer without a physical disc. The installation will be connected to your profile. "GTAV for PC requires 7 discs and about 65GB of storage space." https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-...TAV-for-PC
Microsoft drops Windows onto a USB drive, yet EA manages to keep their titles available in a similar manner. The setup process still depends on Origin, and creating duplicates of physical discs remains straightforward nowadays, rendering any piracy claims weak at best.
