This applies to all boards that existed before the introduction of new CPU SKUs. It's primarily about helping consumers understand and research products rather than technical details. The value comes from boards with BIOS Flashback, which allows flashing the BIOS without a CPU or memory installed. While this isn't a standard feature, it highlights how market segmentation works.

You're really frustrated about something that could have been fixed quickly by checking online. Just browse any PC forum and ask there. Or, if you're not motivated, visit pcpartpicker.com and input your components—it'll verify compatibility automatically. As for the experienced builder, they either update their setup every few years or exaggerate their history. Bios updates and CPU compatibility issues have existed for a long time. Always get multiple opinions; even a few forum members can help. Don't assume things have stayed the same for years.

Additionally, PCPartpicker helps identify possible problems during build planning.

Really, many do-it-yourself enthusiasts in my area are much more knowledgeable. When they purchase a pre-built X570 motherboard (X470, B450 and below), they make sure it supports Zen 2, or they get local shops to update the BIOS for compatibility. So far, there haven't been any discussions in local forums about this since most system builders are already aware of the problem. Broadly speaking, suggesting anyone with a second or third generation Ryzen CPU should ignore this advice—like the 'Old Bios' post did—is completely unreasonable. All it requires is a bit of time, research, and effort.

All the good MSI boards have bios flashback on them, if you do your research there is no risk. MSI has the best B450 boards, this is soo ass backwards lol. Its like blaming MSI cos AMD has backwards compatibility???????

....if you read the description of the products it simply says they are compatible. Some of the boards actually say Ready. The difference is simple to understand. Just because it's compatible doesn't mean it is out of the box. Ready means it is. No bad advertising on the manufacturer end or the sellers end.

It's hard to please everyone nowadays. Some grumble about Intel needing motherboard updates every couple of generations, while others get upset when AMD doesn't but demands BIOS changes. Perhaps this is why Intel keeps pushing updates—so they don’t lose customers to competitors.

I keep a Ryzen 1200 as a backup because it works well. This isn't just for AMD—some Intel boards had the same issue. The problem isn't as big since Intel often updates their chipsets every couple of generations.
