Have you noticed how much better things are now? For years I kept a basic home network with standard cables, but I thought they wouldn’t affect performance much. Recently I found CAT8 Ethernet cables on Amazon and switched everything over. The difference was huge—gaming felt smoother, pings dropped, file transfers were lightning fast, and even remote VPN connections snapped. Anyone else using CAT7 or 8? Any advice to boost your setup?

It would have been cheaper to choose cat5e or cat6 instead of 100mbit. You’re still limited to 1gig instead of higher speeds.

They offered excellent performance at a low cost (under £10 per 5 meters). Compared to older CAT5E cables, the new NIC connections still maintained solid speeds. The main takeaway was noticeably improved network responsiveness with upgraded cables.

Cat7 follows ISO guidelines without a formal TIA/EIA standard, which means its quality can vary widely since it isn’t bound by strict electrical requirements. Cat8 is similarly unstandardized at the moment, so sellers might be cutting corners and offering subpar cables, especially cheaper ones. Jitter and latency are mainly affected by other factors like EMI rather than cable quality unless the cables themselves are extremely problematic. Note: Cat8 was officially standardized around 2017, according to Fluken Networks.

They wouldn't be operating at such fast speeds, yet the person insists their setup was already gigabit-capable. It seems like everyone else is just treating it like a home theater upgrade with expensive cables.

Lots of skeptical Thomas are showing up! No one was shy about sharing their thoughts after trying some fresh higher cat cables. Maybe a bit of the placebo effect played a role, but overall things seem to be working well—pretty good news!

If you're pleased with your buy, everything's good, but next time consider asking for a better deal.
