Cat5e or Cat6?
Cat5e or Cat6?
Hey there - I'm thinking about which Ethernet cable to buy for my new PC. My router supports speeds up to 1000Mbits, so I think anything beyond Cat5e isn't needed. But I wanted to double-check. Should I upgrade to a better router with Cat6? Does the jump from 1000Mbits to 10Gbits really make a big difference in gaming? I also need to confirm if my Ethernet cable fits the router's LAN ports. You mentioned a picture of those ports - do you have it? Also, I've heard some people plug cables into the wall, but will this router handle that too? Thanks!
You're considering Cat6 cabling, but you're questioning whether the extra cost of a 10Gbps router justifies it.
When internet speed is below 10 gigabit, it makes sense to consider upgrading your router.
Switching at 10Gb speeds is expensive, and I doubt you'll need that much (how often do you move files between NVMe SSDs on different PCs?). Actually, you could set up a dedicated internal network and rely only on a 10Mb internet link (or none at all). A router isn't the source of internet—it's a modem.
You must demonstrate how the 800+ college students in a single dorm room struggle to reach 700mbps.
