I recently swapped out some CAT6 cables for CAT5E because the longer CAT6 wouldn’t fit in certain trunking areas. I thought the speed difference between CAT5E and CAT6 would only affect local network performance. But after plugging in the CAT5E from my router to my PC, my download speed dropped significantly. Usually on CAT6 I get 220 Mbps, but with CAT5E it’s only about 60 Mbps. I checked several times and got the same results. Someone at my dad’s job cut and crimped the CAT5E cable, saying it might not have been done correctly. Does this seem typical for CAT5E? Are there other factors involved, or could the crimping have been the issue? Any advice would be helpful.
There are various types of CAT5e cable available, with some being more affordable but slower than others. The shielding might also be a concern, possibly due to interference between wires. Are you producing your own cables? The connectors could be of sufficient quality to handle fast data rates.

we're discussing the lengths involved. if it's not unusually long, the problem likely lies with the termination. a faulty cable can occur, though it's uncommon if the reel is new. as mentioned earlier, cat5e works well for gigabit ethernet over 100 meters.
