Here are some alternative points of view: The differences might not be huge for your specific scenario. Using a PC mainly for video editing and capturing, you'd likely notice less impact from the upgrade. The drivers for the card seem better on 7, and security updates remain available. While 8 offers more features, 7 could still work well with minimal setup. OBS and Premier might not show significant changes between the two platforms.

Windows 7 will stop receiving updates in January 2020 (a really sad moment), so if you intend to swap your computer in two years or wish to refresh everything then, I’d recommend Windows 7. Edited January 25, 2018 by unkn0wn1

Honestly, if your gadget comes with dubious drivers, prioritize giving them the best possible setup to function.

You only need the drivers available for version 7; ignore any for 8.

It has official drivers for models 7, 8 and 10, but 10 tends to cause issues on its own with more frequent updates. It performed better on 7, though that was just one device before combining it with others. The WDDM on 8 was the main problem, and honestly it could be fixed easily. As much as I grumble about 10, any operating system I use now needs careful configuration to avoid those problems, so it might not be a major concern. When I used 7 in the past, I handled IT support well—knowing it inside out. With 8, I’m less experienced and have given up customization on 10. I still get that popup when I wake up or start the day, forcing me to deal with crashes by reading logs and making fixes. No matter what OS I choose, this device will likely cause a blue screen, requiring me to analyze crash dumps and adjust settings. (Next time I’ll try it on a working drive.) Overall, I’m more confident fixing 7 than 8 or 10, but I’ll put in extra effort with any of them. I’d be curious to see how 8 performs after this full setup.

I’d choose the operating system that best fits your hardware, even if it means sacrificing peak performance. Stability and simplicity matter more than speed.
