I have a 2007 macbook kicking around. I really only want to use this thing for the webcam. Record a short video of myself, and copy it to a USB drive. It doesn't appear to have iMovie or QuickTime Pro installed, so those applications won't record video. The "photo booth" app records some video, but sometimes doesn't record the whole thing (cuts the video short). I've tried looking at really old versions of OBS and VLC, but can't get them to work. Is there any software that works with OSX 10.5.8 that can record video? Or should I perhaps try installing Linux to record video? As another note: I no longer have the install media for this macbook, so I can't reinstall the OS if things go sideways. Yeah, it's a really old version of Mac OS, it's a 13 year old laptop, I don't expect much; I just want to squeeze an extra few drops of life out of this thing if I can before it goes to the graveyard.

Don’t discard them, consider selling them on eBay once you’re finished. Those white MacBooks might fetch around $50.

I considered sending it back to Apple, who say they handle recycling.

might as well sell it and get a few bucks. No reason to toss good hardware.

I'm not sure if they'll be interested... someone once discarded it through a second-floor window. Back then Apple supported their warranty (at least in my small town) and repaired it, but it still has a few cracks. I'm uncertain whether it's worth the trouble of using eBay and PayPal. By the way, I've discovered a "100% genuine" software fix that works.
