Hey there, with everything off and unplugged—what resistance should you see in good capacitors? From your multimeter reading at the 20K setting, it looks like:
1) Most should be rising between 0.2 and 0.6 ohms, but testing stopped around that range.
2) A few still in that zone showed a slower rise of just 0.01 ohms.
3) Others jumped into higher values (6.xx, 7.xx) and then only increased slightly after that.

If it depends on your motherboard, you’ll want to check the layout details—specs like voltage rating, capacitance values, and whether it’s a standard or custom board.

Testing with a multimeter on a motherboard isn't practical. A multimeter operates with minimal current, which would quickly charge any capacitors present, making readings unreliable. Capacitors are usually arranged in parallel or connected to inductors and other parts that influence measurements. This approach doesn't provide insight into capacitor quality—whether they're functioning properly or not. For electrolytic capacitors, ESR needs to be assessed using specialized tools like an ESR meter or a LCR meter with ESR capability.

Appreciate the support! It seems I might not be able to tackle this again anytime soon. I'm aiming to have the funds in a couple of years to buy proper tools, or at least get the skills to accurately diagnose and confirm the issue.
