I'm trying to recall a mid-to-late 2000s interactive conspiracy or x-files style game. It had a strong narrative where signing up triggered real-world actions—like calls from the company and emails with documents. There was a progression system that required you to receive information via phone and then unlock content through email. It sounds like it might have been developed by a larger studio, possibly EA. Did any of your friends remember this title?
Eressea? one of these perhaps? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Play-by-mail_game
It was a standout piece. Required some research, but it was worth it.
