I’ve already lost track of the title and posted it online a while back. I played it, and it really impressed me. Now I can’t locate the original forum thread or recall the exact game name. Here’s what I remember: It wasn’t Serious Sam, Quake, Doom, or UT—though similar in style. The graphics were quite similar, but the setting was ancient. You faced strange monsters and skeletons, mostly in a creepy atmosphere. Weapons included items from UT like rotating barrels, an explosive crossbow, and a shotgun. The environment was old and mysterious. One memorable moment was walking down stairs where two skeletons waited behind stone piers, delivering jumpscare attacks when you approached. They made sounds as they moved, and their armor clashed. There were also big boss battles in an open arena with a cage elevator in the center. A special monster would split into two when defeated.
This game is really impressive, especially during the time when ragdoll physics were introduced, making the crossbow stand out as a top choice. It feels similar to the well-known 'Penetrator' from F.E.A.R.
Considering this, I think... -Hexen -Heretic performed both, amazing retro titles!
I was sixteen in 2005 and turning thirty this April. Kids no longer make me feel old! 😅
