Hi. I'm facing an issue while overclocking my CPU. My old system locks up whenever I adjust the FSB, requiring a CMOS reset. Even small changes cause black screens and another reset. Changing the multiplier didn't help because the save failed, keeping me stuck at the same settings. I've turned off power-saving features to ensure stability, but that didn't resolve it. I've also experimented with voltage adjustments, but nothing worked. I'm unsure if the problem lies with the CPU or the motherboard.

It's a dual quad Q8300 CPU paired with the Dell XPS 630i motherboard. The system allows overclocking, which might be the reason for the issue.

the Q8300 is challenging to overclock. It's already running at 333 FSB (your 1333 FSB). Unless you have 400mhz RAM and a motherboard supporting 400 FSB, you'll face issues when trying to OC that CPU. The 650 SLI card you're using has memory speeds ranging from 350-380mhz (as per your specs). Going further with the Q8300 will be tough.

Reduce the memory speed first, then increase the multiplier. This approach helps balance the memory speed and FSB changes, preventing the overclock from being disrupted by the FSB adjustment.

I gave it my best shot. It seems the CPU won't overclock at all. Still, thanks for the help. I'm curious about reinstalling the BIOS—any ideas?

Amaides tried various methods but found the CPU couldn't be overclocked. Reinstalling the BIOS might help, though I'm not sure. The BIOS version used for the old Q6600 was 0605, and later versions caused posting issues.
