Can't OC RAM or CPU
Can't OC RAM or CPU
The PC runs smoothly with stock settings, delivering long game sessions without interruptions or crashes. After making minor changes, consistent instability appears, with frequent game freezes and odd screen distortions. Event Viewer logs reveal a graphics-related error (ESR 0x404000=0x80000002), indicating a potential issue with the graphics card or driver. It seems the problem isn't software-related, as similar issues have been resolved by reinstalling Windows and updating drivers. I've adjusted CPU and RAM overclocks but haven't fixed the crashes. The situation remains unclear without further expertise. Help would be greatly appreciated.
Initially, the CPU isn't designed for overclocking; it should ideally be around 1700x. Regarding the RAM, I'm not sure how to explain it properly.
All the X boards should have a stable OC built in. It looks like something is clearly causing the crash. We're assuming you're using Windows 10. I would perform a MEMTEST on the RAM, testing one at a time to identify the faulty component. Additionally, I believe there might be a memory issue, so consider removing the RAM and only inserting one to test functionality.
I ran a memtest a while back but not 1 at a time and it was fine, but I’ll try what you suggested at some point see if it does anything.
Updated: Removed two ram sticks, kept two in place, changed BIOS from F2 to F31, re-applied XMP at 2900 which caused boot loops. Successfully got into Windows this time, though only briefly before hitting a blue screen due to a video scheduler error. Tried adjusting to 2800 and 2600, but everything remained unstable. Thinking about using EZ Overclock Tuner, but unsure of its safety.
