I used Boot Camp Assistant on my Mac with OSX 10.7.5 to make a bootable USB with Windows 7, but I can only reach the motherboard screen. I set the USB as the first option and saved it, but when I reboot and press F11, it jumps to the boot menu and I select my USB (Sandisk). However, it displays a black screen with a flashing underscore. I followed the tutorials and downloaded the official ISO, but I don’t need the product key right now.

No, I didn't attempt to disable secure boot.

Yes, press enter when prompted to boot to the CD. Make sure your ISO hash matches Microsoft's version.

I haven't heard about it. I'm heading to my friend's place and he's going to get it up and running...

You can verify the hash by using an online hash checker or a command-line tool like sha256sum.

Confirm the SHA1 value using hashcalc for Windows. On Mac, follow the terminal commands from http://osxdaily.com/2012/02/05/check-sha...n-mac-os-x. Microsoft provides a database of all SHA1 hashes on their site; matching the listed value indicates compatibility with Microsoft.

Some computers refuse to boot from USB drives. I own one that won’t start from a standard stick, but works perfectly with an external HDD, an SD card via an SD→USB adapter, or even a DVD player. I’ve heard you can manipulate settings to trick the system into treating your USB as a hard drive, though I haven’t tried it myself.
