Hello,
I’m considering purchasing a valve index for my PC. So far, I’ve only tried mixed reality, which I found impressive, but many people seem to dislike them and consider them low quality. I really want this index! After checking the recommended specifications, my system was right on the edge of what’s suggested. I have an i5 6400 at 2.7GHz and a 1070. That’s perfect! I thought to myself, “Great!” Then I started looking into my main interests in VR games—Boneworks and Half-life: Alyx. (I’ve also played games like Pavlov Solidly with my mixed reality headset before.)

First, Boneworks caught my attention. I was browsing the store page for the game and noticed the minimum processor requirements were 3.0GHz. My system barely met that, which made me panic a bit—previously I never had to worry about running below minimum specs, especially for games. The recommended settings didn’t seem too stressful. Next, I checked Half-life: Alyx’s minimum specs… “I5-7500? I’m in trouble!” I felt a strong reaction.

That’s when I realized why I was thinking about sharing this. Will my PC handle Boneworks just fine? I have 16GB of RAM now, which is more than enough. I also scored a 10.5 on the VR test, but that doesn’t change much compared to the game requirements. Please let me know if you need more details about my PC, thank you in advance. Sorry for the poor English—I’m not native and I’m still getting used to computers.

I'm not very experienced with VR, but your CPU has a boost of 3.3, which might be useful.
Why this index? It's around $1k.
Out of the loop, I don't know what it provides that makes it worth paying more than other VR systems.

There are no previous benchmarks, which means no one can accurately address your question.

Sure, I can help with that. Like I mentioned earlier, I’m not very comfortable with that type of work.

Inquire once more about the game's actual release date and further testing on the hardware.

Sure, I can help with that. I'm sorry about the double post. I'm not very skilled with this kind of work.

Thank you for your feedback! The index increases the FPS standard in VR, whereas most headsets were limited to 60 fps before. This helps reduce motion sickness, which I often experience. The field of view is also wider. The standout feature here are the controllers—they offer great value for their performance and are affordable. Since I don’t have a compatible headset yet, I’m considering getting the index, as it’s designed for those controllers. But if you have another suggestion, I’d love to hear it!

Also, as mentioned earlier, I’m not a tech expert, I understand software but not hardware, so I’m unsure how to improve my CPU. (By boost, I think you mean overclocking, which I still don’t know how to do) If there’s a video showing how to do that, that would be really helpful! Thanks!

It's an automatic boost feature. If the CPU can handle those speeds, it will activate when necessary.
Ensure your cooling system is adequate.
