I also do this regularly as a precaution, every few months—backing up documents, appdata folders I need, and the installed programs in the Programs and Programs (86) folder. This was how I moved from Windows 7 to Windows 10 in 2019, creating a full clone/backup of the C drive after setting up Windows 10 completely with all my apps. Over the years, when I needed to reinstall Windows or update, I re-applied the latest backups of my appdata and document folders. Maybe now it’s time to consider switching to Windows 11 as well.
