The deal is clear—I'm planning to buy this laptop next week.
Acer Aspire E5-575G-51VA
15.6-inch Laptop
Core i5-7200U | 2.7Ghz | Dual Core | 3MB cache
8GB DDR4 | 2400MHz
Nvidia GeForce 940MX 2GB
Maximum Power Supply Wattage 65 W
It’s a simple entry-level model (hope it is), so I’m curious if I can safely overclock it.
Also, does overclocking make sense?
Thanks in advance. You always help me out.

In that scenario, it seems likely it would halve the battery life and increase the fan noise beyond acceptable levels.
You probably wouldn’t see significant performance gains either. (maximum around 5% under ideal plugged-in conditions)
Given entry-level laptops already have limited hardware, achieving an additional 5% would be unrealistic—maybe 10% or more? FPS improvement could be just 1.5 to 2 frames per second at best.
I definitely wouldn’t buy a laptop specifically aimed at overclocking for better performance.

overclocking demands greater power
more power requires better cooling
laptops generally have insufficient power and cooling
entry-level models are rarely suitable for overclocking
high-end gaming laptops with thousands of dollars likely support it, but... they fall into a completely different price bracket.
so... is it safe to overclock? probably not
maybe I can't overclock at all
this is just my perspective though.

little_me :
overclocking needs more power
more power needs more cooling
laptops usually lack in both power and cooling
entry level laptops are usually not overclockable anyway
high end multi-thousand gaming laptops likely are but... they are in totally different price range.
so.. overclock safely? most likely not
able to overclock at all? possibly not.
That is just my opinion though.
When i contacted the store, they said i can overclock. So i'm just wondering if it's true.

I don't think that processor is overclockable. The video chip likely is.
