I’m about to complete my latest setup.

I’ve just put in a new M.2 SSD as the C/boot drive and installed my old SSD, which holds all my files, as the D drive.

If I transfer the entire Steam folder from the D drive to the C drive, will everything function properly?

Avoid creating a new Steam library folder on C drive. Instead, set up the library on the main drive. Then you can transfer your games to the new library (for each game, right-click > Properties > Local Files > Move Install Folder > Choose new Steam library).

You only need to inform Steam about the location of your library. Settings> Downloads> Content Libraryies[Tab]>Steam Library folders and then right-click to set the default folder.

Create a Steam Library in Steam, and then theoretically you could transfer everything over. If you do that, remove the game after copying everything, and reinstall each one. It should recognize the separate files. Make sure Steam Cloud is supported and enabled to avoid losing your saves. Steam also allows moving individual games within properties (as mentioned earlier).

Alternatively, you can build a new library folder as instructed, shut down Steam completely, switch to the Steam apps section on your D drive, select all files and folders, cut them out, and then move everything into the new folder. When you launch Steam again, it will restore everything to its original state but with the games in the updated location. Just ensure there is sufficient space on the destination drive for all files.

I couldn't recall if it still worked lol. I was planning to mention that too, but wasn't sure if it did. It's been a while since I've tried this. Doing it now would be simpler than my original approach.

Ignore my previous message, I got the wrong idea.
1) Put Steam on the C drive, log in to view the library
2) Close Steam completely
3) Go to D:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\Steamapps
4) Select everything and cut
5) Navigate to C:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\Steamapps
6) Paste and wait for the file to finish copying
7) Launch Steam, your library should appear
It will check the games and may download additional files such as redist and possibly mods.

Place everything in the common folder. Your games will be there. You could also simply transfer the entire steamapps folder to the Steam installation directory during reinstallation. Just ensure you remove the original. It's best to do this while Steam is closed, after the initial setup and opening.
