Hello ya'll. I'm kinda a beginner & currently waiting on some parts to come in the mail for my first build. My goal is to build a desktop PC for video heavy applications- editing/rendering, denoising/deblocking footage, video upscaling AI (Topazlabs), etc. with some mild gaming here and there. I recently read up on Bottlenecking and how it affect FPS and video render time. I have a GTX 1080 Ti FE and waiting on a Ryzen 3700X in the mail. RAM- 16GB 3200mhz STORAGE- 1 TB PCIe M.2 NVME Gen 3 MOBO- A SRock X570 PHANTOM GAMING Mini ITX (I went with this primarily for Thunderbolt 3 feature and was in my budget) Bottleneck results as follows: Ryzen 3700X Ryxen 2700X Everything above 10% is considered bottleneck and it shows Ryzen 3700X is too fast & that an older Ryzen 2700X will work better with my 1080 Ti per this website. Skimming through other people's posts on here, I gathered that I need to worry MORE about the CPU not being fast enough for the GPU and worry less the other way around but still kinda sucks why a newer faster CPU would do this. 1) I am contemplating of maybe just returning the 3700X that I have and go for a 2700X? 2) Like I said, I am not heavy gamer and mostly do Video stuff. Will this really impact my work flow (FPS and video render time) if I stick with the 3700X? 3) Are there any factors am I missing here or should consider? Thank you in advance!

The 3700x complements the 1080ti Stupid iPC perfectly. It features a solid memory controller, excellent cache design, and strong CCX support—perfect for performance lovers.

Ccx refers to the central unit holding the components (very basic concept), Ipc denotes guidelines for each core, and instructions per core outlines the specific tasks.

That explanation isn't accurate. A 3700x + 1080Ti will always outperform a 2700x + 1080Ti. Sure, adding an 2080Ti won't cause issues, but that doesn't mean bottlenecking either. All parts function together to deliver the performance they provide. It's similar to thinking your car's wheels are limited by a weak engine—you'd be better off with smaller wheels if the engine isn't powerful enough. That's not how it works.

I believe this also relates to the idea of people being overly concerned about bottlenecks. Bottlenecking depends just as much on hardware as it does on software. Scenarios that focus more on CPU speed will always suggest the system is struggling on the CPU, and the same applies to GPUs. As software evolves and workflows change, imbalance will eventually occur, prompting users to upgrade parts for better performance and possibly shifting the bottleneck elsewhere. Even with premium components, aiming for the absolute top performance can still lead to a bottleneck. It doesn't make sense to deliberately downgrade a component just to feel better about its speed, especially if it might hurt overall performance. Bottlenecking becomes more noticeable when you're trying to boost one part while sacrificing another's efficiency. In this case, moving up to the 2700x doesn't improve the existing 1080TI, so choosing a higher-performing CPU is a smarter choice.
