If you purchase RAM directly from a memory manufacturer using their scanner tool, they promise compatibility and won’t charge any restock fee or return shipping costs even if it doesn’t work. However, this won’t apply to Crucial products since they’ve stopped selling consumer items.

There’s no assurance that any of these will function because they don’t match the original specifications and no one has tested such a setup before. The laptop maker might have tested certain models for compatibility, but over a decade later, finding anything on such a list would be unlikely.

If you need full manual voltage and timing controls, you’ll have to buy two RAM sticks together to ensure compatibility, as individual pairs may not work reliably.

The current RAM module is Kingston 4GB 2Rx8 PC3L-12800S. The most suitable option would be another Kingston 4GB 2Rx8 PC3L-12800S or a Samsung 4GB 2Rx8 PC3L-12800S. They wouldn't know without testing first. It's a 50/50 choice. From a technical standpoint, Windows doesn't control CL settings; it's the BIOS that handles RAM configuration. I haven't heard of Carlstein before. The best fit for an existing DDR3L module is another DDR3L module.

Thank you everyone for your responses; your contributions were really useful. I plan to check out more stores in the surrounding area in the hope of locating a RAM stick that fits perfectly with my existing model. Should I not find what I need, I will go with option A and see how it goes.

Alternatively, you might consider a paired dual channel set of 2x4GB. This would increase your likelihood of compatibility.
