I've never purchased a mechanical keyboard before, I'm not very quick at typing, but I'm used to using a controller mainly for games and I want to learn how.
Can you adjust a gaming mechanical keyboard to a different layout such as dvorak, colemak, workman, carpalx, or halman? If not, what alternatives exist for a mechanical keyboard? Would changing the format in Windows also affect it when playing games? And is there a method to make it switch automatically if the game doesn't recognize it?
2. What color would be best for typing? It's mostly about sound and feel, but speed matters more—especially when typing documents or code rather than gaming. Let me know if this really affects performance.
3. A site suggested blue as ideal because of its sound and tactile feel... it feels a bit odd if that's the truth.
If you have any other considerations, let me know. Thanks for your help.

The arrangement of a keyboard relies completely on how the operating system understands it. If you wish to employ Dvorak, you must inform the OS about your preferred layout. By default, it uses QWERTY. However, after configuring the layout in the system settings, you can remove the key caps and reorganize them as desired.

Regarding the switch colors, personal choice plays a role. Common options include:
Red – requires less pressure to press, linear movement with no sound. Ideal for speed.
Black – identical to red but firmer, demanding more force.
Blue – produces an audible click and a tactile bump, offering both sound and touch feedback.
Brown – gives a tactile bump without the clicking sound.
The decision remains personal; performance stays consistent across layouts.

I favor brown switches since they provide clear tactile feedback while avoiding the sound of the switch engaging.

If you’re at Best Buy nearby, they usually showcase mechanical keyboards for testing.

I noticed your name might not match what's listed for the US. Check nearby stores for keyboards.

Silver Speed switches work well for quick, light touch responses. The Silent Red keyboards I own feel more responsive and faster compared to the regular MX Red switches.
