Hello friends!
I'm checking if it's possible to overclock my Intel Core i5-3470 to 3.8 or 4.0GHz. Here are my system details.
CPU: Intel Core i5-3470
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4
Video card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970
RAM: 8GB
I also have a Cooler Master Seidon 120M liquid cooler, so the main concern is cooling.

It depends on your OC abilities and your chances with the silicone lottery. However, typically 3.8 GHz can be achieved using just the multi and disabling turbo mode.

Hey,
In certain situations you might be able to slightly boost the CPU speed (for non-K models) by tweaking the Base Clock, but this usually only increases performance by around 3% and can impact PCIe devices such as graphics cards, making it generally not advisable.
If you're curious, you can try adjusting it in the BIOS—this would raise the turbo from 3.6GHz to about 3.7GHz, which is only a 3% change and might not be worth it.
Otherwise:
DX12 titles should still run smoothly on the i5-3470 for a long time. Benchmarks on early games will show strong results, but most will likely hit the top CPU limits, possibly with FX-4100s grouped together (bottleneck shifting away from the CPU). We'll just have to monitor and see.
Very few titles would really gain from pushing the i5-3470 further right now.

Download Intel tuning utility
Launch Manual Tuning, turn off Turbo mode, and adjust the sliders at x40, x39, x38 accordingly.
Applies successfully.
Achieves 4.1 ghz under full load with 2 cores and 3.8–3.9 ghz with all 4 cores.
Volts remain unchanged; motherboard handles it automatically.
Maintained stable performance (50-55°C) during 30 minutes of heavy gaming and rendering.
Avoid altering Base clock for this CPU type, as it can cause system instability or boot issues.

yes, you're correct. your board supports adjusting the cpu speed multiplier. on your z68, this setting was previously at 4.1 ghz.

Hey, with your i5 3470 you don't have the manual overclocking option either, right? You're using only the XMP profile and can't adjust any settings.
