Can you get your Patriot Viper Steel DDR4 RAM fixed?
Abstract: Owning a Patriot Viper Steel 3200MHz 2x4Gb DDR4 setup, but limited to 2666MHz. Concern about the RAM here PVS48G320C6K. My system details: CPU Ryzen 3 2200G, motherboard Msi B450, Tomahawk PS, Gigabyte G750H, 80+ Gold. What I've attempted so far... Initially it ran at 2133MHz, but during overclocking I hit 2666MHz (18-20-20-38) @1.4v / voltage 1.25V. It includes two X-AMP profiles: one at 2933MHz and another at 3200MHz both at 16-18-18-36. Neither performed well at 1.35/1.36/1.4 volts. Image of the working profile from DRAM calculator shows details. I've used various timing settings in MSI BIOS 'Memory Try It' and manual methods, but nothing worked. Information from CPU-Z indicates this RAM uses Nanya A-Die chips, though it's labeled as C16. The current profile is C18 at 1.4v. Please help clarify my RAM situation and performance. Also tried Ryzen Master Profile—any suggestions? Edit: I also checked the 'Memory Try It' feature in MSI BIOS and used GSKill Ripjaws 2x4Gb, but it didn't help.
I don’t have the figures on hand, but anything above 1.2 SOC voltage could cause long-term issues. 1.4v works fine on the DIMMS. The memory controller on that CPU and motherboard can handle up to 2933mhz standard. Are you using four RAM sticks? Most B450 boards have two primary slots that meet the advertised speeds, but filling the remaining slots drops performance. For example, my ASRock B450 Pro has slots A1 and B1 rated at 2666mhz, while A2 and B2 reach 3200mhz. I can get stable 3600mhz with overclocking on A2 and B2, but adding more DIMMs pushes the limit to 2666mhz.
It looks like you're dealing with a configuration of 2x2xGB on an XMP profile. The total memory is around 4GB. Getting close to the optimal values is challenging. I'd suggest starting with XMP profile 1 and using a 1.1 SOC voltage. If that doesn't work, stick with 2666 and consider adjusting the timings instead.
Thanks for the update. I switched to auto voltage and the profile at 2666mhz with 1.4v works perfectly. All four dimmers are active, so I’ll stick with that frequency. It’s odd that 2x4Gb sticks can’t reach 3200mhz in A/B channel—maybe 2x8Gb will handle it at 3200mhz without issues. I don’t want to spend more money.
@Jorgmen which BIOS version are you running on your motherboard? MSI put several BIOS updates out in 2019 that enhanced RAM compatibility and overclocking features. These aren't Samsung B-Die chips...which aligns with the Ryzen 1st gen setup (Ryzen 2200G is a first-gen APU with 2000 series naming). Nanya Technology was previously part of Micron / Crucial, which was acquired by Micron a few years ago.
