Can you fix bent pins?
Hey there! I was working on swapping the cooler for my Ryzen 5 5600. After removing it, I tried cleaning but dropped it, causing some pins to bend. I used a magnifying glass and a nail file to straighten them carefully. Once everything aligned, I reinstalled the cooler (the stock R5 model) and restarted the PC. It ran smoothly for two days without any problems. Recently, I encountered a blue screen and a BIOS warning about high CPU temperature. After checking the BIOS settings, it showed 78°C. I removed the cooler, opened the case, and found the VRM cooling fins were excessively hot. Letting them cool down helped. Also, leaving the case cooler unplugged made a difference. After reconnecting everything, the temperatures stabilized around 76°C. This is within normal range—usually I see 80-85°C during gaming. It seems my CPU temperature isn’t spiking anymore, which is good. No major damage appears to have occurred.
It seems the problem lies with your thermal interface material, not the bent pins. You should reapply the paste and confirm your cooler is firmly attached.
It seems like the issue isn't with the CPU itself but rather with the cooling system.
Incorrect bending won't lead to CPU overheating. The main issue is poor connection with the cooler.
