Can you fix a video file called .MKV using a special tool?
I have a movie file named .mkv that contains an audio track called aac and video from mpeg format. I want to remove one scene that lasts about ten seconds. Is there a program I can use for this? It needs to be free, work without needing the internet connection, leave no watermarks on the picture or sound, and keep the quality exactly the same. Basically, something like Virtual Dub, but it must support my file type.
Avidemux is a good program, but if you want something specific, you need to chop up your video into little pieces based on what's important. The problem is that these cuts usually won't match the exact 10 seconds of footage you're looking at. If you don't use key frames for every cut, you'll have to recode a part of the file anyway. Even then, you can skip some frames and work on just the section you need, but there will always be some loss in quality because that process changes how the video is stored.

If your cuts aren't on keyframes, you'll have to recode that section anyway (you can just cut at the nearest frame and only fix what you actually changed). There will always be some loss or quality drop in this process.
