I own an ASUS laptop (TUF-FX504) with 8 GB of RAM in one slot. I’m considering adding a 16 GB module (1x16) to fill the empty slot. My concern is whether I should keep the old RAM or replace it. Would a laptop work smoothly with 24 GB from two different brands and models? Or should I discard the old unit and go for 16 GB? Also, please confirm if the RAM stick you’re thinking of matches this laptop’s specifications.
I don’t understand the second question, but for the first one: according to what I know, there shouldn’t be any issues with different brands—it will just run at the pace of the slowest component. Concerning the module sizes, if you already have a 16GB, I’d suggest keeping the 8GB in and observe the outcome; why not? If it fails (as far as I understand), then you probably wanted more than 8GB—though there’s no reason not to try if you can achieve the full 24GB, regardless of speed.
The two modules operate at similar velocities. Although the second one seems simplistic, I asked mainly due to the varying "ranks." I’m unsure if that’s relevant or important. Appreciate your prompt response!

I have one of my computers built in 2008 that I still use today mainly as a media server for my home network. It’s connected to my bedroom and is powered by an Asus Sabertooth X58 with a 6-core 990Xe i7, GTX 1050 Ti, and 16 GB of RAM. The motherboard has space for six RAM sticks, and I’m currently running two identical models and four of another brand/size. I’ve tried mixing different configurations to see what worked best, but the most RAM capacity I could get without buying more was 16 GB. The manual mentioned a setup that would provide 24 GB, but I haven’t experienced any issues with the 16 GB combination I used for years. This board was quite selective about RAM, but it handled the 6 sticks fine when I had them.
