She owns an SSD that includes access to cloning tools, avoiding extra costs. Choosing a cloning method can lead to problems. The existing Windows installation contains drivers for older hardware, which may cause conflicts. It’s best to clone the drive first, then install Windows 11 with the option to retain personal files and applications. Avoid booting into Windows after cloning.

I haven’t turned on the new PC to discover its details. It’s a Dell pre-built model, which makes me hesitant about using cloning tools but I’m not sure. I haven’t checked yet. The more I research cloning, the more worried I become. The SSD in the new PC is smaller than the old HDD, adding another issue. I’m planning to extract the old HDD from the previous machine and connect it to the new one, hoping it works. It’s not helping that I’m under a tight deadline—I no longer live in the same city and need a solution by Friday or the gift could be returned.

Instead of cloning the disk to the new PC, just copy it to a local folder on the SSD and see if you can launch the programs without installing them. Look for the executables in the copied drive's folder structure. Make sure not to write to the old HDD so you retain a backup if needed.

Rule one makes sense, I’ll definitely try copying to the local folder and hoping for the best. I’m counting on the WIN10 to WIN11 update not interfering. In case things go wrong, I can push the new PC into WIN10 and retry. I’m just waiting to see what happens.

Click the shortcut or executable to see several compatibility settings appear. Try running it with administrator privileges or in Windows XP mode. You might find some options that help resolve issues when starting it.

An update on this: Tried pulling the HDD from the old computer and plugging into the new computer. - tried running the software from the HDD on the new PC. Software wouldn’t launch. - tried copying the software to the SSD of new PC. Software wouldn’t launch. - tried setting up a VM of the old PC through the night. Never made it past 7% before the VM tool stopped responding and then windows as a whole stopped responding. is there any other options? Any ideas how to help the old PC? It seems like the drive is the reason it’s so slow.
