Can the parts be recognized using an ID or serial number?
When recording all the serial numbers, you usually do so before taking the item. These components—GPU, motherboard, and storage devices—are typically clearly marked. However, if you're worried about this shop's practices, why would you be choosing them?
What kind of computer are you bringing? Custom built, prebuilt, laptop, etc.?
Serial numbers are useful for verification; many parts such as RAM or GPUs often have stickers on them.
If you prefer more privacy and security, apply UV-reactive paint to each component (just a small amount, only in areas that won’t affect the part) and inspect the PC under UV light when it arrives.
Or, avoid taking your PC to any place you think might be untrustworthy.
Are you aware of this being an issue in your area? Do you not have reputable repair options?
in my country these kinds of questionable activities can occur at any service shop...
there is software that can display the serial number?
i've also discovered an article, but i'm not sure it matches exactly what i need... under device manager > (right click) properties of the device > details > hardware id...
is this a type of hardware unique identifier?
Hardware ID applies to a group of similar devices rather than a single unit. Prior to W7, locating drivers was straightforward, making this an effective method for obtaining the right driver. I believe the blacklight pen listed above is the most suitable choice in this situation. It's disappointing to have to handle such a product.
Well, it looks like there might be a problem with the BIOS battery. I changed the battery a few days ago, but I keep seeing the BIOS setup window even when there’s no power. I’m worried I might have misplaced the clip that connects to the battery on the side—this part keeps the battery secure on other devices. When I replaced the battery, I pressed the clip too hard and it bent completely down. Even after putting it back, I think it’s not making proper contact with the battery, which is why the BIOS setup window appears when there’s a power issue.
