Can the F-keys be reassigned without needing an active program?
Currently, to use F1 I need to press Fn+F1 instead of the default action (mute or unmute). The machine I'm using is an HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-0 keyboard, and the HP TPC-P001K model. I checked the keys for a Fn lock but none were present. I attempted various combinations like combitnation shift+ctrl+fn, shift+fn, ctrl+fn, and fn+lock screen, but nothing worked. I also tried accessing the BIOS, though it didn't offer an action key mode option. Some users have managed to fix this by downgrading the BIOS, but I prefer not to do that. A possible solution is using software to remap keys for a different Fn combo, though I'm unsure if such software can be activated without keeping it open. The link provided seems promising, but I'm not certain if it requires the program to remain active.
Maybe refer to the support link, and when reassigning choose a command.
Powershell might provide options.
The primary worry is any changes made to the registry. Editing it should be a last resort.
It’s probable that background execution will be necessary unless you’re comfortable opening and closing as needed.
Running at startup with background service likely has minimal impact on system resources, though this needs confirmation.
Before making any key changes, ensure the host system is completely backed up and that backups are both recoverable and readable.
An incorrect remapping could cause serious issues...
Thanks, tried the microsoft one but seems to work only with microsoft devices, in fact it asks me to connect one upon launch to progress
Guess I'll have to see if something can be done with the registry but yeah I'll have to make bakups and be careful
In case other people have this problem I also found this:

Planning to give it a good read later on but maybe some of the software mentioned here can help write on the registry
