Can someone help me turn on the power limit for my 10500 i9 processor?
I found a review online that says the Intel i9-10900 performs well if left unlocked. What setting on my MSI Unify motherboard helps me get more power from it? How do I unlock the power limit? Also, are there other settings I should check when turning this feature on? Thanks!
I haven't tried Throttlestop yet, so I can't give you advice on that specific thing. Honestly, I don't know much about it either. Experimenting is a way people try to make things work beyond what they were meant for. But I told you not to do that at least. No one ever really said you actually HAVE to do it though.
It is the 10900k model that has an unlockable multiplier. Unfortunately, your current setup is locked because its power draw limit is set at 65W, while the K version can pull up to 125W TDP. Some people say MSI fixed this in their BIOS. I don't think you'll be able to handle it long-term without stability issues. The motherboard isn't built for extra VRM load, so you would need a dual radiator AIO fan just to keep the CPU cool. Of course, some people will tell you yes, go ahead because they've had success doing that. All of these points are just my personal opinions.
The review says they used a program called throttlestop to change how much power can be sent out. Also, I found a setting named base clock. What should I put it to? If I can remove those limits in Windows, why do I have to adjust the base clock? I'm confused what exactly I need to do. As for cooling, I think everything is fine because I have an alpha eisbaer 360 AIO.
I've never tried Throttlestop so I can't help with that part. It's like guessing where a car should stop or start. I just know one thing: don't push the limits too hard because someone warned me not to do that. Nobody actually said you have to, though.
