Hey, it sounds like you're considering upgrading your i3 6100 with an h110 board and possibly the MSI Z170 A Pro for better overclocking. Recent discussions suggest that non-K CPUs might be more challenging to overclock now. Also, investing in RAM speeds above 3000 MHz for a non-K CPU isn't necessarily worth it unless you're targeting high-end performance.

I spent some time attempting to optimize my 2400 MHz RAM with an i3-6100 and a GA-Z170M-D3H. I managed to reach 2666 MHz without changing voltage, but I couldn't adjust frequency or timings further, even with voltage adjustments. It's unclear if this was due to the CPU or because I didn't purchase a high-speed kit.

I spent some time attempting to optimize my 2400 MHz RAM with an i3-6100 and a GA-Z170M-D3H. I managed to reach 2666 MHz without changing voltage, but I couldn't adjust frequency or timings further, even with voltage adjustments. It's unclear if this was due to the CPU or because I didn't purchase a high-speed kit.

Yes, it still functions properly. However, if you already own a mobile board, it might not be worth purchasing a new Z170 motherboard. Concerning the RAM, I'm uncertain. It probably depends on how much a similar kit would cost.
