can it be done?
i've been testing firstrike benchmarks and it looks like my cpu isn't reaching 4.0 as expected. my stock clock is at 3.6 and the turbo should be 4.0, but even after adjusting my stock to 3.8 with oc genie, the turbo stays at 4.0. when i get the results, it shows a reported stock of 3.6 and a max of 3.8 despite using oc genie. can i still overclock my non-k version in any way? i also have a watercooler.
You're working with an MOBO Asus z97m-plus + i7 4790 system that supports overclocking up to 4.22GHz. To proceed, follow these steps:
1. Turn on Max Turbo Boost in BIOS.
2. Set the base frequency via Intel XTU.
- Go to Manual Tuning > under Reference Clock to 105.5589MHZ.
3. Restart your system and confirm the changes.

You can't overclock a CPU that isn't K, except maybe with a small BCLK boost, which won't really help much for heavy tasks—probably not worth the effort.
If you're not observing the expected turbo MHz, it might be because your cooler is too hot; check if you're using the built-in cooler. Think about getting an aftermarket solution like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo. You could also look into enhancing your case's cooling system.
Regarding Firststrike benchmarks not showing up, could it be your graphics card causing the issue? Better case cooling might also improve performance on your GPU.
If your motherboard supports several BCLK / CPU straps, you can. A 100Mhz stock setup could reach up to 3.8Ghz. Overclocking with BCLK might push it to around 105, roughly 3.990 Ghz. Certain premium overclocking boards provide these strap options. Configurations like 100, 125, 167, and 250 are available. With them, you can hit nearly any speed, though stability with non-K series chips remains uncertain.
my water cooler stays cool, rarely reaching over 67 on prime95, with temperatures around 44 during gaming.
