Hi there everyone, very new here. Situation: While changing the panel for my razer blade 16, I accidentally damaged the LCD cable beyond repair ( cut in half). HOWEVER, I came up with the solution to buy a generic 40-pin Motherboard to LCD cable and replace the damaged cable. (Still waitting for the delivery) My question is: Will it work? Is there any proprietary protocol or something exclusive to any particular brand that prevent this sort of patchwork method or as long as the pinout is correct, it would work just fine? I have confirmed that the cable I purchased have the exact 40 pin config for both the motherboard and the display panel. Here is the link to the cable I purchased https://www.ebay.com/itm/3359294501...4o...HnEALw_wcB There was also a thread about this but I don't know the result Question - Can I use generic 40 pin EDP display cable for my laptop screen? I own an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45-R4GR, which I bought on 20th May, 2021, and it is out of warranty. It has a 2560x1440 screen at 165Hz, and it suddenly had horizontal lines on it. I was watching a YouTube video, and the lines developed suddenly across the whole screen. There is no physical damage... forums.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
My advice would've been to replace parts,
like-for-like
. As it stands Razer's tend to be very problematic with anything that isn't from their inventory/part's list.
I have confirmed that the cable I purchased have the exact 40 pin config for both the motherboard and the display panel.
Since you're going down that route, I hope it works for you but I'd have sourced the exact same display cable, down to the part number. I'm partially certain that the dimensions for the Dell display cable might conflict with the innards of your Razer laptop.
Moved thread from Displays section to Laptop Tech Support section.

Thank you for your response, it's really helpful to have guidance from a mod. I'm glad I could get some advice. I understand the design issue since razer uses a ribbon LCD cable instead of standard cables. A little duct tape and proper placement should work fine. Also, could you let me know where I can purchase the Razer LCD cable for my laptop model? From what I know, Razer doesn't sell parts separately, and the Razer Blade 16 is quite new—maybe it's not available on ecom sites anymore or I'm missing something.

Lastly can I ask where would I go to buy Razer LCD cable for my version of laptop?
What is the exact SKU to your Razer Blade 16? There's a sticker on the bottom of the laptop. We have no need for the S/N.
Far as I know Razer don't ship their parts separately and the Razer Blade 16 is fairly new, don't think its part is on any ecom sites now or I just don't know where to buy.
Local repair shops might be your friend as would Ebay, IMHO. Your issue is that you bought into a wannabe Apple product. Apple command a brand loyalty and over time have had people who fought for the right to repair and now you have an abundance of replacement parts from right, left and center. Razer...is another story entirely.

The specific SKU for your Razer Blade 16 is RZ09-0483UJJ4. It seems Razer has moved from using stickers to printing directly on the back now. For the local reapir shop, I attempted it but haven’t found any Blade 16 parts on Ebay so far.

There should be a part number for the display cable that you managed to damage. Can you pass that along as well?
See if this matches your laptop's cable;

the idea I had was accurate in that the cable doesn't match the one you linked earlier, which came from Dell. I think if you used the cable intended for a Dell laptop, by the time you opened and closed the laptop lid a few times, it would have been damaged. Plus, there would be compatibility problems inside the laptop.

I'm well aware of that and I don't intent to close the lid until I get the correct cable. I would just keep it open because basically it's a desktop replacement for me.
There's already the fan on sale, reckon I'd wait for the cable to be on sale too.
