Hello everyone! I just received a new 40 series card that needs two separate PCI-E cables to power the GPU. I have the Corsair cx750m, which has two 8-pin ports. Between these ports it mentions "6+2 PCI-E Connector & 4+4 CPU." My concern is whether I can use both ports for PCI-E cables or if one should be dedicated to PCI-E and the other to 4+4 CPU. I’m hoping to be certain before I start using the card extensively.

they can be utilized for either a pcie cable or the 4+4 cpu cable. thus, you can use one for your cpu power and the other two for the gpu.

Thank you for your prompt response and for clarifying the situation. Based on what you described, it seems your PSU is indeed hardwired with the CPU cable. When I checked yesterday, there was only one PCI-E (from an old card) and one SATA connected in a modular setup. It has been used regularly for years in that configuration. Does this align with your understanding?

not knowing the full specs of the pc, it is possible your mobo/cpu combo does not need the extra cpu power. so only what is hardwired is needed. not a big deal if that's all it needs.
some more power hungry cpu's use that extra 4+4 to the mobo to feed the cpu beast. been working as is so no need to second guess it now
so just plug the second pcie power cable in and you're good to go.

Fun to share this setup! I'm planning to try out the MSI X570 gaming board with a Ryzen 5600x CPU later, and I want to see if adding an extra CPU cable might improve performance.

upon closer inspection, it appears you already have a 4+4 hardwired setup active on your motherboard. you possess an additional modular cable, but your motherboard doesn't require it—particularly for a 5600x. you're supplying it with more power than necessary. i have a few of these and they consistently handle under 100w in testing; i suspect you might have pushed them to around 125w if you've removed restrictions and allowed them to operate freely.

The single 8-pin EPS is designed to handle up to 336W.

Great question! So, in short, yes—stick with the current setup except for the extra PCI-E slot for your new GPU.

Sure, just connect the second PCI cable and you're good to go.
