Can I utilize a contemporary CPU or MoBo alongside an nVidia GTX 970?
I've received an older PC built with an Intel i5 6400 and an nVidia GTX 970 with 4GB DDR5 RAM. I'm curious whether the GTX 970 can be paired with contemporary CPUs and motherboards. I'm planning a new build with some components still to choose, but I want to know if using such older parts makes sense. For instance, would it work with an Intel i9 14900K? I'm not a heavy gamer, just enjoy retro titles and emulators like PlayStation or N64. My main concern is whether these newer processors are still capable for graphics, or if there are still useful scenarios for this card. Please let me know your thoughts.
There are several advantages to consider.
If anyone has more information about the benefits, it would be very helpful!

The advantages can be significant, but they depend on the comparison. When compared to the iGPU on the 14900k, the GTX970 will outperform it in every aspect. It will handle many games at 1080p resolution with reduced settings, support newer titles with adjusted configurations, and enable Windows games. While not all will work, a good starting point is simply installing it and testing its performance. Let us know how it goes 👍
This is precisely what I was looking for!
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
I prefer not to play new games, so this seems like an ideal choice for me.
It might take some time since I need to save first, but I wanted to find out before starting to save for a graphics card now.
Appreciate your assistance.
