Hello, I just joined this forum, so please be gentle with me. Recently, I bought a 144hz monitor and found that I can't run most games at that speed. I've been thinking about upgrading to a 1070 for a while now, but I'm unsure if I'm ready for it. Here are my specifications: CPU Intel Core i5 4460 @ 3.20GHz | 55 °C RAM 14.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24) Motherboard ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Z97-P (SOCKET 1150) | 55 °C Graphics GN246HL (1920x1080@144Hz) S241HL (1920x1080@60Hz) 2048MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (Gigabyte) | 65 °C PC Case: Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-03 Mid tower To determine if a 1070 is suitable, two main points matter: 1) What power supply are you using? Sharing that detail would help. Since your GTX 960 uses similar power, you should be okay there. 2) Is your case sufficient? Compare the length of your 960 to the size of the 1070 you're considering. As long as these conditions are met, a 1070 should work. Now comes the big question: Will it let you run games at 120fps+? That depends on the titles and you'll need to check benchmarks. Also, your current DDR3 setup seems odd—14GB? Are those three 4GB sticks or two 8GB sticks? If it's the latter, you might be fine with just one 8GB stick and should remove the extra 2GB. If it's three 4GBs plus a 2GB, use two matching color slots. Speed-wise, 1333Mhz (two sticks) is slower than expected. You may need to adjust later for better performance. Check this thread for more info: My budget isn’t high enough right now to worry about it.
My PSU is 500W and i'm not sure. I was wondering if people had an incite if they know if my case is big enough. And i'm not sure why there just a random two gig is tbf. But yeah.
yes you should be able to play most games, though it often depends on the hardware. sometimes, for example, two people with dishonoured 2 might struggle to run at 60fps, especially if they're using a titan x or even a newer 1080 setup.
O/P believes the PC won't manage the 1070, but your situation seems fine in any case.
