Can I upgrade the RAM on this laptop?
it currently contains a 4gb ddr4 2400mhz module
my friend has another one available
can we add another one?
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Your Lenovo V330-14IKB is identified by its specifications.
Refer to this data sheet: https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF...B_Spec.pdf
The laptop should support a maximum of 20GB RAM, with 4GB already soldered onto the motherboard. You can upgrade to a single 16GB stick at 2133MHz or 2400MHz if needed.
Check the processor you received; it will determine whether you need a DDR4-2133MHz or DDR4-2400MHz module.
What is the RAM size your friend has?

I believe the processor is an i5 8250U and the RAM should fit without issues, but our main issue is that we can't install the new RAM at all. We've tried removing the steel covering, but it seems to be stuck. We even watched some YouTube videos showing it coming off easily, but we're facing a tough problem. We've asked AI assistants like ChatGPT, though I'm unsure how trustworthy they are, and they suggested the steel cover might be soldered, making it impossible to install RAM. We're hesitant to use tools like a sharp knife because we don't want to risk damaging the laptop completely.
I believe the processor is an i5 8250U and the RAM should work without issues, but the main issue is we're having trouble installing the new RAM. If the processor is an 8th Gen Intel chip, you should be able to install a single stick of 4GB DDR4-2400MHz. Make sure you haven't disconnected the laptop's internal battery. Avoid using a knife to remove the lid—use something like a suction cup or a spudger instead. Be careful if you're not in a static-free environment, as static electricity could damage the soldered RAM.
I don't believe we disconnected the battery
we'll attempt it once more
thank you
