Can I UC an OC GPU?
I recently purchased a GTX 1080 Turbo OC and read some reviews suggesting that the OC card can get quite warm—around 80 degrees Celsius when operating at about 75% load. I’m wondering if adjusting the clock speed back to the original 1080 specifications will stop this overheating. Should I underclock the card, and could doing so harm it? Would this be necessary or is there any risk involved? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I bought the OC card because it was £50 cheaper than the regular version, and I’m not too concerned about using it in overclocked mode.
When you can programmatically reduce clock speeds and voltages, it will generate less heat. This should not harm the card. Whether it matters in your case depends on the situation. If everything is functioning properly and the cooling system works well, it should help keep things cooler.
