Can i still overclock?
I have an amd x4 860k and a msi 7906 motherboard (my pc was pre built by hp but i changed the cpu into something better). I did some research and found out that all pre built hp computers bios are locked and i was wondering if i could overclock my x4 860k to 4.2ghz using amd overdrive to stop the bottleneck with some games. If i can, what should i set the voltage to when it's 4.2 ghz?
Yes, the limited BIOS options don't necessarily hide them, just avoid displaying them. AOD doesn't alter settings permanently within the BIOS. Remember it remains a simple software layer, which can be damaged and affect performance.
You can attempt it, but it relies on software and isn't very stable. Make sure the Vin0 voltage stays below 1.5v. With the stock CPU cooler, I doubt you'll exceed 1.4v without overheating. Still, it might be possible to overclock using AMD Overdrive?
