I need to speed up my Ryzen 5 2600 processor using an MSI X470 Gaming Plus card. Is it possible to make the chip run faster without getting too hot, staying below 85 degrees? I appreciate any advice you can give me here.

Here is an article looking at the Prism on a 2600: https://www.techspot.com/review/1635-amd...-compared/ Short answer - yes you can overclock with that cooler no issue. Just keep in mind you aren't going to get much over 4.2ghz on a 2600 no matter what cooler you use. If you are trying to get maximum performance in games, keep in mind you may get a bigger performance boost from memory tuning that core clock anyway, Here is a vid looking at that: View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6RWEnUsLSY

Just remember you won't reach much over 4.2ghz on a 2600 no matter what cooler you have. If you want the biggest boost in games, keep in mind memory tuning might give you more than just a core clock speed increase. AMD CPUs usually hit their maximum clock speeds right out of the box, so why bother trying to go faster? You'll likely end up with something around 4.1 or 4.2 MHz depending on your BIOS settings anyway. They're already at max speed when you buy them!

That's true for those Ryzen 3000 processors, but OP has a 2600. That chip runs slower than what you might expect and actually loves getting a little extra boost. It hits the top speed in the mid-4 GHz range on its own, but even at factory settings, it only starts at 3.4 GHz per core. If you turn up all those turbo boosts to their max, they climb around 3.7 GHz instead of going higher than that.

Enable PBO or go to Level 1. Many MSI motherboards tend to push power levels much higher than what AMD suggests as a safe default.
