I'm looking for a way to add FireWire to my laptop because I can't afford a new one. People used an M.2 to PCIe riser and then added a card, but they don't want it sticking out the back; they need something inside. My Acer Nitro 5 has an empty 2.5-inch slot. Can I put a PCIe card in there? Maybe use a Dremel tool to cut a tiny hole so a small FireWire cable can fit through?

Laptops are just too small to fit big cards like PCIe ones inside them. Even if there is room for those things, they aren't easy to plug into. It would need to be drilled into the metal shell anyway. So why do you really want a FireWire connection?

My mixer needs a FireWire connection because that's the only one it supports. I don't know how to get this working. There isn't another way to plug it in since my computer also lacks Thunderbolt features. It is simply out of reach for me right now.

Nope. I don't know what to do with these two totally different gadgets other than using a plug you aren't going to buy.

If you want to patch this outside of the laptop, what should I do? I don't really know anything about putting in separate PCI cards on a laptop.
